LIFE INSURANCE
The cheapest it will ever be is today.
Life insurance is priced on your age and your health, and both move in one direction. That is the whole argument for looking at it now. It is not an argument for buying more than you need.
WHAT IT IS
Term, whole life and indexed universal life
Term insurance covers a fixed number of years — ten, twenty, thirty — and pays out if you die during them. It builds no value and it ends. That is why it costs a fraction of everything else, and why it is the right answer for most families most of the time: it covers the years your income is holding other people up.
Whole life is permanent. The premium is fixed, the policy does not expire, and it accumulates cash value you can borrow against. It costs considerably more per dollar of coverage, which is exactly why it is the wrong tool if what you actually need is protection during your working years.
Indexed universal life is permanent cover whose cash value is credited based on an index, with a floor that limits losses and a cap that limits gains. It is a legitimate tool for the right situation. It is also the product most often sold to people who needed term insurance, so we will be direct with you about which one your situation calls for.
Who it is for
Anyone whose income, care or debt would land on somebody else if they died.
What it costs you
Nothing to review. Premiums depend on age, health and the amount of cover.
Typical starting point
Term cover sized to replace income for the years your family depends on it.
Carriers

Is this you?
- You have children, a mortgage, or anybody who depends on your income.
- Your only cover is through work, and you have never checked what happens if you leave.
- You bought a policy years ago and have no idea whether it still fits.
- You are in your twenties or thirties and someone told you to sort this out.
- You have been declined before and assumed that was the end of it.
If any of these sound familiar, a 10-minute conversation will cost you nothing and probably answer more than you expect.
WHAT WE HELP WITH
What a life insurance review covers
01
Term life
Level-premium cover for ten, twenty or thirty years, sized to the years your household actually depends on your income.
02
Whole life
Permanent cover with a fixed premium and cash value, where leaving something behind matters more than covering a working-years gap.
03
Indexed universal life
Permanent cover with index-linked cash value, a floor and a cap — explained with its real mechanics, not a sales illustration.
04
How much you need
Income replacement, remaining mortgage, debts and the cost of raising children, worked out as a number rather than a guess.
05
Riders worth having
Accelerated death benefit, waiver of premium, child riders — which ones earn their cost and which are padding.
06
What you already hold
Employer cover, VGLI, an old policy in a drawer. We count it before recommending anything new.
Common questions
How much cover do I actually need?
A common starting point is ten to twelve times income, adjusted for your mortgage, debts and how many years of childcare remain. We will work out your number, not a rule of thumb.
Term or permanent?
If you need cover for a defined stretch of years, term. If you need it to be there whenever you die, or you have an estate or business reason, permanent. Many households end up with mostly term and a smaller permanent policy.
Will I need a medical exam?
Not always. Several carriers now offer fully underwritten decisions without an exam for healthy applicants within certain ages and amounts. We will start with those.
I already have cover at work. Is that enough?
It is a good start and it is not portable. We count it, then look at what would remain if you changed jobs tomorrow.
Can I convert a term policy later?
Most quality term policies include a conversion option to permanent cover without new health questions, within a time limit. That option is worth more than a few dollars of premium difference, and we check for it.
I am older or I have health issues. Is it worth asking?
Yes. Underwriting varies enormously between carriers, and being declined by one says little about the next. There are also guaranteed-issue options.
